Nas

Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones, known mononymously as Nas, is an American rapper, entrepreneur, and record producer. Rooted in East Coast hip-hop, he is regarded as one of the greatest rappers of all time.

Queensbridge's greatest export, Nas arrived in 1994 with *Illmatic*—a five-mic masterpiece that remains hip-hop's platinum standard for lyricism and production craft, built on the foundation laid by Rakim and Slick Rick's storytelling while elevated by DJ Premier and Pete Rock's instrumentals. His rivalry with Jay-Z produced the genre's greatest technical beef ("Ether" vs. "Takeover"), a clash that eventually yielded mutual respect and collaboration, but it was Nas's earlier moves that cemented his influence: "If I Ruled the World" with Lauryn Hill became the decade's defining rap-R&B moment, while his Queensbridge kinship with Mobb Deep and Wu-Tang connections (RZA, Method Man) positioned him as the bridge between the borough's projects and national consciousness.
