Joell Ortiz

Joell Christopher Ortiz is an American rapper and former member of the group Slaughterhouse. Raised in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn's Cooper Park Houses, he first gained recognition after appearing in the Unsigned Hype column of The Source Magazine, as well as on the Chairman's Choice list on XXL Magazine.

Emerging from East Williamsburg's Cooper Park Houses, Joell Ortiz carved his reputation as one of Brooklyn's most technically precise lyricists—a legacy cemented when he and Royce da 5'9" co-founded Slaughterhouse, the supergroup that eventually signed to Eminem's Shady Records and redefined what independent-minded collective rap could achieve in the 2010s.
