Jay-Z

Shawn Corey Carter, known professionally as Jay-Z, is an American rapper, businessman, and record executive. He was named the greatest rapper of all time by Billboard and Vibe in 2023.

Built from the streets of Marcy Projects, Jay-Z transformed a Brooklyn hustler's mentality into hip-hop's most formidable empire, starting with Reasonable Doubt's stripped-down brilliance in 1996 and reaching peak artistic power with The Blueprint in 2001—a album that redefined New York rap's sound through Just Blaze and The Neptunes' production. His 2001 "Takeover" didn't just kill Nas in the most technically devastating rap beef ever recorded; it announced Jay-Z as the era's dominant force, a status he'd cement through Watch the Throne with Kanye West before their later falling out.
