Victor Kwesi Mensah, known professionally as Vic Mensa, is an American rapper. Born and raised in Chicago, he was a member of the regional hip-hop groups Kids These Days and Savemoney prior to releasing his debut solo mixtape, Innanetape (2013).
Vic Mensa emerged from Chicago's SaveMoney collective—which he co-founded alongside Chance the Rapper—armed with the restless energy of *Innanetape*, a 2013 mixtape that announced him as more than just a regional prospect with bars. His Roc Nation signing positioned him for mainstream ascension, yet his career has been defined by deliberate friction: the conceptual ambition of *The Autobiography* (2017) never quite connected with radio, while his pivot toward social activism and sonic experimentation kept him perpetually out of step with commercial expectations. *Victor* (2023) found him recalibrated, leaning into the introspective vulnerability that always lurked beneath his technical precision.
