Torence Ivy Hatch Jr., better known by his stage name Boosie BadAzz or simply Boosie, is an American rapper. Hatch began rapping in the 1990s as a member of the Southern hip hop collective Concentration Camp, eventually pursuing a solo career in 2000 with the release of his debut album Youngest of da Camp.
Boosie's catalog from 2000 to 2006 established him as Baton Rouge's most unflinching street documentarian, with *Ghetto Stories* and *Bad Azz* capturing the raw texture of Southern trap life before the sound became commercialized. His partnership with Webbie under the Trill Entertainment banner created a regional blueprint that influenced countless Louisiana rappers, while his proximity to Lil Wayne's dominance in that same era defined Louisiana's dual identity—one uncompromising and grounded, the other maximalist and playful. Where many rappers softened their narratives for wider appeal, Boosie's refusal to sanitize his perspective, whether across *Both Sides of the Track* or his relentless mixtape run, made him the most authentic voice in a scene increasingly chasing radio hits.
