Thebe Neruda Kgositsile, known professionally as Earl Sweatshirt, is an American rapper and record producer. Kgositsile was originally known by the moniker Sly Tendencies when he began rapping in 2008.

Earl Sweatshirt emerged from Odd Future's chaotic early 2010s moment as the collective's most introspective voice, trading shock value for genuine artistic progression across albums like *Doris* and the deliberately claustrophobic *Some Rap Songs*. His connection to Flatbush Zombies mapped a lineage of underground horrorcore that rejected mainstream accessibility, with both crews building devoted fanbases through uncompromising production and deeply personal lyricism. From his early 2010 mixtape *Earl* through recent projects like *VOIR DIRE*, Kgositsile has refined an experimental sound that feels increasingly singular—lo-fi beats wrapped around dense wordplay and conversations with his own conscience.
