Xzibit

Alvin Nathaniel Joiner, better known by his stage name Xzibit, is an American rapper, actor, television presenter, radio personality, and record executive. He began his musical career in 1992, and signed with Loud Records, an imprint of RCA Records to release his debut studio album, At the Speed of Life (1996).

Through the late '90s and early 2000s, Xzibit became the hyperactive connective tissue linking West Coast production to mainstream crossover appeal, channeling Dr. Dre's Aftermath blueprint across *At the Speed of Life* (1996) and the increasingly ambitious *Restless* (2000). His rapid-fire delivery and willingness to anchor tracks—from Dre productions to features on countless albums—made him less a singular force than a reliable vehicle, someone whose presence signaled sonic credibility without demanding center stage. The *Pimp My Ride* phenomenon would eventually overshadow his recording career, transforming him into cultural shorthand for a particular strain of bling-era enthusiasm, but his actual catalog reveals an artist fundamentally shaped by proximity to genius rather than driven by it, competent and prolific where his mentor was visionary.
