Wiz Khalifa

Cameron Jibril Thomaz, known professionally as Wiz Khalifa, is an American rapper, singer-songwriter, entrepreneur, and actor. Raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he signed with the local independent label Rostrum Records to release his debut studio album, Show and Prove (2006).

Pittsburgh's Wiz Khalifa built his empire on a deceptively simple formula: infectious hooks, the Taylor Gang collective he founded, and an unflinching commitment to weed rap when the genre needed a cheerful counterweight to trap's menace. *Rolling Papers* (2011) proved he could craft genuine hits—"Black and Yellow" became inescapable—while collaborations with Mac Miller and Curren$y revealed a rapper comfortable in his own lane, neither chasing trends nor resenting those who did. His friendship with Mac Miller forged one of hip-hop's most authentic regional partnerships, two Pittsburgh natives who understood that authenticity didn't require aggression. Where many stoner rappers trafficked in caricature, Khalifa made it feel effortless, turning *Mac & Devin Go to High School* into something genuinely likable rather than a novelty project.
