Faheem Rashad Najm, known professionally as T-Pain, is an American singer, rapper, songwriter, and record producer. He is known for pioneering the creative use of Auto-Tune pitch correction, often used with extreme parameter settings to create electronic-styled vocal performances.
T-Pain didn't invent Auto-Tune, but he made it impossible to ignore—warping his voice into something between human and machine on *Rappa Ternt Sanga* (2005) and *Epiphany* (2007) until the effect became his signature. His collaborations with Lil Wayne produced some of the late 2000s' most infectious hooks, while his willingness to push pitch correction into absurdist territory drew Kanye West's ire on "D.O.A." (2009), a track explicitly designed to bury what T-Pain had built. The Tallahassee singer never backed down from the sound that made him—it defined him on *Thr33 Ringz* and persisted through later work like *REVOLVEЯ* (2011)—even as the industry moved past the stylistic moment he'd crystallized.
