Smif-N-Wessun

Smif-N-Wessun, also known as Cocoa Brovaz and Tek-N-Steele, is an American hip hop duo from Brooklyn, New York City. It is composed of rappers Tekomin "Tek" Williams from Bedford–Stuyvesant and Darrell "Steele" Yates from Brownsville.

Emerging from Bucktown's grimiest corners, Smif-N-Wessun carved out a reputation as Boot Camp Clik's most uncompromising voices, cycling through monikers—Cocoa Brovaz, Tek-N-Steele—without ever diluting their caustic Brooklyn sound. Tek and Steele's collaborative chemistry defined underground '90s East Coast rap, a no-frills aesthetic that influenced countless crews operating outside major label constraints. Their connection to Black Moon and Duck Down Records positioned them within a fiercely independent ecosystem that prioritized artistic integrity over crossover appeal, making their catalog essential to understanding how Brooklyn crews maintained creative autonomy during hip-hop's most commercially explosive decade.
