Pivot Gang

Pivot Gang is a hip hop collective of independent rappers based out the west side of Chicago. The group originated from the Austin neighborhood in 2011.

Built on the west side of Chicago's Austin neighborhood, Pivot Gang represents a DIY ethos that prioritized artistic independence over industry validation. The collective—anchored by Saba alongside MFn Melo and Joseph Chilliams—emerged in 2011 as a counterweight to mainstream Chicago rap, crafting introspective alternative hip-hop that resisted easy categorization. Saba's ascent as a solo artist, particularly through his critically acclaimed albums, elevated Pivot Gang's profile beyond regional status, proving that Chicago's creative depth extended far beyond the drill sound that dominated the city's national narrative.
