N.W.A

N.W.A was an American hip-hop group formed in Compton, California, in 1987. Among the earliest and most significant figures of the gangsta rap subgenre, the group is widely considered one of the greatest and most influential acts in hip-hop.

From the streets of Compton in 1987, N.W.A weaponized the mic as a tool of social documentation and pure sonic aggression, transforming gangsta rap from underground murmur to cultural force. Dr. Dre's production on *Straight Outta Compton* provided the sonic blueprint while Ice Cube's lyrics cut with surgical precision—until money disputes fractured the group in 1989 and sent both men on trajectories that would reshape hip-hop entirely. Eazy-E's Ruthless Records and Priority's distribution network turned their raw, profane accounts of Compton life into platinum statements that the FBI itself felt compelled to condemn.
