Mannie Fresh

Byron Otto Thomas, better known by his stage name Mannie Fresh, is an American rapper and record producer. He is best known for his production work for Cash Money Records releases, as well as being half of the hip hop duo Big Tymers with the label's co-founder, Birdman.

The synth-soaked bounce that defined late-90s Cash Money Records didn't emerge from thin air—it came from Mannie Fresh's studio, where he engineered the sound that would make New Orleans hip-hop inescapable. Alongside Birdman in Big Tymers, Fresh proved himself equally comfortable behind the boards and on the mic, crafting club anthems like "Back That Azz Up" while simultaneously sculpting Lil Wayne's early catalog into something transcendent. His production fingerprint—those crisp drums, the melodic swagger, the infectious loops—became the sonic blueprint for an entire movement, one that still influences trap and bounce producers today. Fresh's genius was knowing when to strip things back and when to layer in the chaos, a balance that made Cash Money's sound feel both maximalist and oddly minimalist at once.
