Otis Lee Jackson Jr., known professionally as Madlib, is an American DJ, record producer, and rapper. Critically acclaimed for his eclectic, sample-heavy production style, he is regarded as one of the most influential producers in modern hip-hop.

Otis Jackson Jr.'s production methodology—built on obsessive digging through jazz standards, soul records, and international vinyl—transformed how underground producers approached beat-making in the 2000s. The Madvillainy collaboration with MF DOOM established a blueprint for lo-fi perfectionism that still influences producers today, while his later partnership with Freddie Gibbs on Piñata and Bandana proved his versatility could elevate a rapper at the height of their powers. Through the Madlib Medicine Show series and his Beat Konducta albums, he weaponized anonymity and prolific output as artistic statements, releasing material at a pace that seemed to defy conventional album cycles.
