Chief Keef

Keith Farrelle Cozart, better known by his stage name Chief Keef, is an American rapper and record producer. Born and raised in South Side Chicago, he began his recording career as a teenager and initially garnered regional attention and praise for his mixtapes in the early 2010s.

Chief Keef didn't invent drill rap—he weaponized it. From the South Side at sixteen, Keef transformed the Bang mixtape series into a blueprint that would define Chicago's sonic identity for a decade, his minimalist production and ice-cold delivery becoming the template that Lil Durk and countless others would follow. Signing to Interscope as a teenager, he carved out *Finally Rich* as a statement of intent, though his collaborations with Kanye West during the *Ghost Town* era proved he could operate at rap's highest conceptual levels. Through Glo Gang, he built an entire movement around the aesthetics of Chicago street life, creating a closed ecosystem that influenced everything from Atlanta trap to Brooklyn drill—a reminder that the most powerful connections in hip-hop aren't always about chart placement, but about ownership of a sound so singular that everyone else is just catching up.
